Do you ever find yourself at work, not even close to lunch hour, but starving even after having a well-balanced breakfast? This happens to me all the time. I always bring some kind of snack to work to hold me over until lunch. It’s usually some kind of granola bar, nut mix, or muffin.
Have you ever watched the show, DC Cupcakes, on TLC? I remember when it first aired in 2010. It was interesting to see how they build their big projects with a whole bunch of cupcakes. I must admit that it is a pretty clever idea, but I think it doesn’t look as good as a whole cake (such as in Cake Boss on TLC).
I noticed that I started a lot of my recent blog posts with different ways of saying “I grew up with this food. Now I make it today!” What can I say, when you’re a child, you find out what makes you happy and what doesn’t. It stays with you for the rest of your life. Either you love it or hate it. Well, here’s another childhood food I bring to you.
Growing up, I really enjoyed lasagna (go figure). It’s a major comfort food for me for sure. I just loved the gooey ricotta cheese on mixed with the meat and noodles… not to mention the slightly crispy edges! Whenever my mom served lasagna for dinner, I would always take the end pieces. For having it so much in my childhood, you might be surprised that I never had a homemade lasagna. They were always the ones that were frozen and you just heat up in the oven. I didn’t feel deprived when I was a child; I just thought it was normal to not make lasagna from scratch. Who wants to spend the time to make it? It seems so laborious.
When I was a kid, I didn’t really like sprinkles on my cakes. I just thought that the texture was weird and it didn’t taste like anything, so what’s the point? I didn’t care for how it made cake more appealing or how festive they can be.
Now that I’m older, I can appreciate the use of sprinkles, even embrace it. That’s why I decided to try these funfetti cookies. They can really brighten a person’s day. These days, it’s all about making someone’s day just a little bit better from the life problems that we all have.
Sometimes you feel like you’ve had such a bad day that you just need to do something that will make you feel better… anything to get your mind off of all the bad things and just focus on what you are doing in the moment. Baking is that thing that helps me get through those bad times. I feel like no matter what I bake, I have a recipe right beside me to help me out.
There’s something about holidays that just scream sugar cookies. Just choose a shape and you’ve become very festive. My mom gave me a heart cookie cutter and that started my sugar cookie making. I first made these and I’ve been wanting to improve my cookie-cutting and icing skills.
I feel like you need to have the right tools in order to make good sugar cookies.
